UCSD and Chicago Members Expand CEA's Geographic Reach

Golden, CO / PRBuzz.com / February 1, 2012 -- Clean Energy Alliance, Inc. (CEA), the national association of clean energy business incubators, announced the membership of both the William J. Von Liebig Center for Entrepreneurism and Technology Advancement  at the University of California, San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering, and the Clean Energy Trust of Chicago, IL.

CEA, founded a decade ago by the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), focuses on developing practices and resources to support clean energy technology commercialization.  Incubator members of CEA provide incubation services, including both physical and virtual mentoring and business counseling, to assist emerging clean energy technology companies in the commercialization process.  Both new CEA members are Innovation Ecosystems under a program started by the Department of Energy, and will participate in the Department of Energy Small Business and Clean Energy Alliance Partnership that is managed by CEA.

"CEA and its current members welcome the von Liebig Center at UCSD and the Clean Energy Trust to our ranks.  We are delighted to be expanding our geographic scope, as well creating the opportunity to collaborate with these respected organizations," said James F. Groelinger, CEA's Executive Director.  He continued, "Bringing Innovation Ecosystems into CEA shows the value in having a common entity that fosters cooperation and cross-fertilization among incubators without impeding individual incubator development.  It also reinforces NREL's and DOE's visions of incubation as an important and efficient mechanism for facilitating the challenging process of commercializing cleantech companies."

Dr. Rosibel Ochoa, Executive Director of the Von Liebig Center, said, "We are delighted to join CEA on behalf of the members of the San Diego Clean Energy Innovation Ecosystem and to have our budding entrepreneurs, faculty, students, and advisors gain access to the capabilities offered by CEA, including the ability to interact with other commercialization entities across the country. Our collaboration with CEA will enable us to better fulfill our mission to inspire entrepreneurism and advance commercialization of university inventions."

Jason Zielke, Vice President of Programs and Technology at the Clean Energy Trust's Senior Program Manager, noted: "We appreciate CEA's focus on practices and resources to improve cleantech acceleration and commercialization, and look forward to leveraging our CEA membership to assist our entrepreneurs and advisors.  We are proud to be CEA's first upper Midwest member, and plan to look for opportunities to assist CEA members that may have clients near us."
