FORMER SENATOR DEDE ALPERT JOINS ACCELIFY'S CALIFORNIA BOARD OF ADVISOR
PRBuzz Press Releases
LOS ANGELES (PRBuzz) September 7, 2010 -- Accelify is proud to announce that former Senator, Dede Alpert (D-San Diego) has joined the company's California Board of Advisors.

"We are honored that Dede Alpert is lending us her knowledge and insight," said Alex Brecher, COO, Accelify. "Her passion for education and her experience in the Senate and Legislature makes her an ideal partner in support of our goal to improve education in California through helping school districts recoup their full shares of Medi-Cal reimbursements. The additional revenue that districts can generate from participating in the Medi-Cal claiming programs will not only provide relief in this difficult economic climate, but it can also help protect jobs and maintain the high standards in education that Dede and our other advisors have worked so hard to achieve."

Alpert represented the 39th Senate District in San Diego County after having served three terms as an Assemblywoman and two terms as a Senator. She was widely recognized as one of the Legislature's foremost advocates of public education. During her tenure in the Legislature, Alpert chaired the Education Committee in both the Senate and Assembly.

Alpert has received numerous awards and citations for her efforts, including being recognized as "Legislator of the Year" by the California State University system and "Senator of the Year" by the California School Boards Association in 1998.   She joins former Assembly Member, Marilyn Brewer; former California Education Secretary and Assemblywoman, Kerry Mazzoni;former Indiana Attorney General, Jeff Modisett; and former state Superintendent of Public Instruction, Delaine Eastin on the Board of Advisors.

Former Senator Alpert is also the author of numerous pieces of landmark legislation, including some that established new standards nationwide. In the area of education, she authored legislation that allows parents to choose the public school their children will attend; the California Assessment of Academic Achievement Act in 1995, which established a state-wide standardized test through which students, schools, and school districts around the state could be compared; and the "Public Schools Accountability Act of 1999," which created criteria by which California schools are evaluated according to student performance on standardized tests, and high-performing or improving schools are rewarded, and under-performing schools are given assistance. Alpert was also a principal author of the "ABC" education reform package of 1995, which requires the integration of phonics, basic spelling, and fundamental computational skills into school curriculum.

Alpert is currently the Chair of the Sharp Healthcare Board, a system of five hospitals in San Diego; she is a member of the Boards of the Girard Foundation & Price Charities, and serves on the board of Gompers Preparatory Academy, a charter school in San Diego that partners with UCSD.

Prior to her election to the California State Legislature, Alpert served on the Solana Beach School Board for seven years. She was also a court-appointed special advocate for Voices for Children and was active with United Cerebral Palsy, PTA, and the Girl Scouts. She is married to Michael Alpert, a retired attorney, and they are the parents of three daughters, Lehn, Kristin, and Alison, and are also proud grandparents.
